JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Terrell and Tyler Cook are Seabees who have spent the last 11 months in Afghanistan. Kimberly Cook says what was supposed to be a small get together to welcome her husband and son home turned into a community wide welcome back celebration.

"It was something that started out as something that was going to be a simple welcome home, we're proud of you that just turned into the community just coming together, and it's just snowballed into something huge. It's turned out wonderful," Kimberly said.

Terrell and Tyler said it was a unique experience being able to deploy together, so they felt they always had a piece of home with them for those 11 months away.

Now they say it feels even better to be back home in South Mississippi with the rest of their family.

"It's a wonderful feeling to be gone for so long and then come home to your family and friends," Terrell said.

"It's indescribable. The feeling I got when I got out of that car, to know that I was in my own community again. There's no words to describe how I felt when I got out of it," Tyler said.

Words definitely came easy to Tyler's 5-year-old daughter, Kylee, who was happy to have her daddy back home.

"Well, I thought he wasn't coming home, but now I did know. I love him and I missed him," Kylee said.

The Cook family is ready to catch up on old times.

"I'm just glad they're finally home and safe, and now we have some hunting and fishing to do," Trent said.

Terrell and Tyler are grateful to be home together sooner than expected, and say they're not sure when they will be deployed again.
