HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

We continue to track a strong, slow moving storm system that could bring significant severe weather to the Tennessee Valley on Monday and Tuesday. Because it is slow-moving, we will likely see several waves of showers and thunderstorms. This also means several days of heavy rain and the potential for storms to train over the same areas so the flash flooding threat is high, especially by Monday night and throughout Tuesday.

Our first threat for severe storms will come sometime early Monday morning from weakening storms out to our west. Right now, it looks like the greatest threat will be damaging winds and possibly some hail with this round. We may see a break in the wet weather and maybe some sunshine around late morning, midday Monday before the next round comes Monday afternoon with the potential to last overnight into Tuesday morning. Round #3, Tuesday afternoon, will be highly dependent on how the atmosphere recovers after round #2. It is unclear if we will see supercell type thunderstorms, if we do, that will increase the chance for strong tornadoes and large hail. It's possible the storms could form in lines and clusters. If that is the case the most likely threat would be from damaging winds and the heavy rain.

Remain weather alert as we fine tune the details this weekend. We will keep you up to date on this developing threat on air, online and on your mobile device.
