DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Decatur Police Officers, and officers from other Morgan County law enforcement agencies, kicked off their biggest Special Olympics fundraiser Friday.

They carried the torch from the Police Department to the Wal-Mart on Beltline Road. Officers were on top of the Wal-Mart through 9 p.m. Friday night, and will be there from 8 a.m. through 9 p.m. Saturday raising money for the Special Olympics.

"We all know what sports means to a lot of us, but this is something bigger than that," said Lt. Proncey Robertson with the Decatur Police Department. "It's a life changing experience to be involved with."

The Cops on Top fundraisers will be held through Saturday at Wal-Mart Supercenters in Decatur, Athens, and Cullman. The Madison Police Department and Madison County Sheriff's Office are doing it at the Wal-Mart on Highway 72 near County Line Road. They will be taking donations and selling t-shirts with all proceeds benefiting the Special Olympics.
