HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Northwest Huntsville restaurant was the scene of a two-alarm fire Thursday.

Fire crews responded to El Camino Real on the 4100 block of University Drive around 4 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters on the scene said everyone got out of the building safely and that no injuries were reported.

Fire Captain Frank McKenzie said hotspots were still being put out some 90 minutes after the initial blaze. He said that the heat inside was so intense, one firefighter's helmet partially melted.

McKenzie said the biggest problem has been keeping his crew hydrated due to the extreme heat. He said the fire was believed to have started in the attic.

"As they entered the attic area, they looked around and there were flames completely surrounding them," McKenzie said. "They could only stay in the attic approximately 20 seconds at a time, it was so hot in there."

The restaurant was declared a total loss. The owner of the restaurant said he was glad no one was hurt, and at the end of the day, "it is just a building."

A cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
