NORTH ALABAMA (WAFF) -

A developing storm system and cold front to the west of the Tennessee Valley will bring a round of showers and storms across the area during the overnight hours.

Severe weather looks possible to the west Thursday afternoon and some of those storms could remain strong as they reach NW Alabama later Thursday evening.

The latest severe weather threat area includes areas west of I-65. Storms are expected to weaken as they push eastward Thursday night.

If we see severe weather, the main threat would most likely be damaging wind gusts up to 60mph.

Storms likely won't arrive in the area until late Thursday evening. The latest hour-by-hour forecast with WAFF 48 Pinpoint Predictor brings showers and storms into NW Alabama around 11 p.m.

By 3 a.m. showers and storms will have weakened as they cross the I-65 corridor.

Storms will continue to fizzle as they move into NE Alabama with only a few lingering showers expected by 7 a.m. Friday.

This doesn't look like much of a severe weather event, but it's always a good idea to stay weather aware. Make sure you have your weather radios programmed and turned on before you head to bed Thursday night. Plan on checking back with the WAFF 48 Storm Team on our newscasts, online at WAFF.com and on the WAFF 48 Weather App for updates.
