HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville International Airport is, once again, the most expensive in the United States.

The dubious distinction is according to figures released by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

Chantel Minish, the airport's public relations manager, said that losing low-cost provider AirTran in 2012 drove the average ticket cost up for flights in and out of Huntsville.

Huntsville is a business market, and because businesses and government personnel are able to pay for the more expensive flights, airlines have incentive to keep them high.

Some residents said they were saddened by the high cost of airfare in the Rocket City and said that the extra dollars they spend on air travel could be put to better use, such as for food.

Others said they will brunt the cost for the convenience of having an airport so close to home.

However, one man found a more creative approach of getting to Huntsville. He said he would have flown into Birmingham and rented a car the rest of the way, but he "couldn't get the timing to work" this time around.

A tool Minish recommended for saving on airfare is Huntsville Hot Ticket, a service provided by the airport which helps you in finding the best price for your needs.

With the news of Huntsville International maintaining its status as most expensive, a bright spot: the average ticket price out of Huntsville decreased in the last two quarters.
