10 years for woman connected to Marshall Co. man's murder

MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A second person has pleaded guilty to charges related to the murder of a Marshall County man found in a burned vehicle in DeKalb County last December.

A grand jury found Delia Downs had nothing to do with the kidnapping, which was one of the original charges. Downs pleaded guilty Tuesday afternoon to charges of hindering prosecution and received a 10-year jail sentence for her role in the death of Gary Lee Willis.

Stanley Townsel pleaded guilty earlier this month and received a life sentence.

Investigators said Willis was shot and killed in Marshall County and his body left in a burning vehicle just outside of Geraldine. Prosecutors now believe that Townsel forced Downs to participate at gunpoint, but Downs later voluntarily worked to hinder the ability of law enforcement to find Townsel after the crime.

The third suspect, Christopher Cagle, remains in the Marshall County Jail on $1-million bond.
