GURLEY, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Fire HAZMAT crews continued to assist Gurley emergency workers in securing a gas leak at Gurley City Hall, several hours after the initial 911 call.

Emergency responders were called to the scene of a gas leak at Gurley City Hall around 4:45 Tuesday afternoon. They remained stationed on Walker Street in front of the library for most of the night as an impromptu command center.

Mayor Robert Sentell said three people were taken to the hospital. They include a police officer, town clerk and volunteer firefighter. All three were treated for minor injuries and symptoms and released.

As the sun went down, so did the fumes, according to officials. After hours of searching, the culprit - a leaky chlorine gas cylinder - was discovered an sealed.

News of the leak being capped brought relief to folks in a small town, and for workers who spent a long day's work at the scene. They will spend the remainder of Tuesday night airing out the building.
