HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A four-star hotel named by the developer of a Downtown Huntsville project says there is no agreement in place to come to the city.

April 8, Huntsville developer Scott McClain said his project would include an AC Hotel, a chain owned by Marriott, but which is exclusively in Europe.

Marriott is working to bring the hotel brand Stateside, but confirmed Tuesday there is no plan in place to bring AC Hotels to Huntsville.

When we met the developer about the Constellation announcement a few weeks ago, we were introduced to Yedla Management, who has brought several Marriott-brand hotels to North Alabama. It is the same group working on the Constellation project.

Yedla's Executive Vice President and COO Stuart Newmark said Tuesday afternoon there is no contract with AC Hotels and that talks with various hotel companies are ongoing, but nothing is concrete.

Constellation is a $170-million development McClain said is supposed to include two parking decks, more than a half-dozen restaurants, 20 retailers, thousands of square feet in office space and 150 apartments.

In a statement, a Marriott spokesperson said, "In our most recent development report, there is not a signed deal for AC Hotels in Huntsville."

A message requesting comment from McClain was left at his office.
