CULLMAN, AL (WAFF) - People in Cullman are coming together to spruce up the town's historic cemetery.
This Saturday, April 26, organizers and volunteers will be out to restore the Cullman Memory Gardens.
The facility has fallen into disrepair in recent years and some locals said it has become an eyesore.
A good amount of work has already been done, and organizers hope this weekend will take the project to a new level.
"We've got family members from South Alabama that come up here and see this, and then they go back down there and say 'Well, this is a disgrace up here.' Now we're trying to get it cleaned up to where it's not a disgrace anymore," said Stephen Ashley.
A group of men who aren't available to attend Saturday came on Monday. They jump-started the process by mowing lawns and performing other chores.
"We're trying to give back, what we can do to try to make it look better," said volunteer Ron Faust.
Organizers said once the big clean-up is complete, it will be a simple matter of routine maintenance to keep it looking nice.
In case of rain, volunteers said they will postpone the cleanup to the following Saturday.
