Abdirahman will run strong in Boston

Tucson, AZ -

The Black Cactus runs Boston Monday.

Tucson High ('95) and Pima College and UA grad ('01) Abdi Abdirahman will run in his first Boston Marathon on Patriot's Day.

The elite level competitors was scheduled to run in last year's race but had to withdrawal due to injury and illness.

He expects a lot of emotions for this 118th running of Boston's marathon, the first since the bombings last April that killed three and permanently injured many more near the races finish line.

Abdirahman is a four-time Olympian who finished second at the New York Marathon in 2008.

Although Somali-born, Abdirahman became a U.S. citizen in 2000 so he's trying to become the first American male to win the event since 1983 (Greg Meyer).
