GENEVA CO., AL (WSFA) -

Two suspects charged with shooting an Alabama State Trooper in Geneva County over the weekend are now linked to a possible murder case in Florida.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Alabama State Trooper attempted to stop a vehicle on Geneva County Road 57 for a traffic violation. A pursuit ensued but ended when the suspects' vehicle stopped abruptly. The suspect then shot the trooper, according to authorities.

One suspect was arrested at the scene and a second suspect was later apprehended after fleeing into a nearby wooded area. They are identified as Zachary Taylor Wood, 23, and Dillon Scott Rafsky, 21.

The suspects and the Trooper were all transported to area hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds. The Trooper is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Following their release from the hospital, both suspects were transported to the Geneva County Jail and charged with attempted murder.

During the course of its probe, The Alabama Bureau of Investigation contacted the Washington County, Florida sheriff's office to advise that the vehicle used in the shooting was owned by a resident there.

The Washington County Sheriff's office dispatched deputies to conduct a welfare check on the owner of the vehicle, but when they arrived they found 66-year-old James Shores's body. He was found dead behind a family farmhouse in a case of suspected foul play.

ABI and the Alabama Department of Public Safety continue to investigate and have not released any other information.
