HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A standoff on South Parkway near Hobbs Island Road caused the parkway and bridge over the Tennessee River to be closed.

According to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, a man who lived in a mobile home next to the O-Boy Fireworks Stand came out and began yelling at the employees and pointed a gun at them after they were unable to tell him who had smashed into his car late the night before.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the employee said he would call the police, and the man responded saying he had enough guns and ammo to kill everybody. The employee called the police around 2 p.m. and left the stand, and met with police on the parkway, informing them of the situation.

Officers blocked off traffic on both sides of the parkway and bridge during the standoff. They surrounded the scene, armed, and verbally told the man to come out and lay on the ground. The man complied.

The man was identified as 31-year-old John Raleigh Wilson. According to officials, Wilson was a convicted felon out on parole at the time of his arrest. Madison County officials were able to search his home with cooperation from Alabama's Board of Pardons and Parole Office. According to investigators, guns and narcotics were recovered from the search.

Wilson was charged with possession of a sawed-off rifle/shotgun, possession of a pistol by a violent felon, making a terrorist threat, and violating his parole. He is being held at the Metro Jail without bond.
