Maxwell's 42nd Air Base Wing Security Forces Squadron held a Meritorious Service & Retirement ceremony for a four-legged employee who worked like a dog during her time on staff.

Alissa, a military working dog, was retired at the Military Working Dog Training Yard Friday afternoon.

Alissa worked dog at Maxwell Air Force Base over the past two years, but officials say because of a degenerative disc and joint disease, she's no longer able to perform her job duties.

The military pooch spent most of her service time as a commercial vehicle inspector, performed three military working dog demonstrations, and in 2013 discovered a suspicious pipe-filled package while on Gunter Annex.

In attendance for Alissa's retirement were 42nd Air Base Wing Security Forces Commander, Major Benjamin Jacobson, Technical. Sergeant Timothy Evans, Staff Sergeant Adam Bearden and Chaplain (Captain) Mitchell Holley.

K9 Unit representatives from around the River Region were also invited to the retirement ceremony.
