Dothan residents warned of sewer overflow

Posted: Updated:
DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -

The City of Dothan is warning residents about contaminated water after a sewer overflowed into a creek.

Due to heavy rainfall, manholes at 1128 Cornell Dr. and the  700 block of North Englewood Dr. overflowed, and sewage was released into Rock Creek.

Residents and the public are advised to avoid contact with water in the contaminated areas. Signs have been posted around the creek warning residents to avoid the water and area, according to the city.

If you come in contact with the affected water, wash the contact area with soap and water. If any objects come into contact with the water, they should also be sanitized.

Dothan Utilities welcomes notifications from citizens if a sewer overflow is suspected. Citizens can notify the department by calling (334) 615-3302.
