KAUFMAN COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas man who drowned after his boat overturned Wednesday has now been identified.

Kaufman County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Johnny Adams said the body of 42-year-old Darin Karl of Kemp was discovered in Cedar Creek Reservoir by Texas Game Wardens around 12:45 p.m. Thursday.

Kyle and his nephew were fishing near Cedar Creek Country Club when their boat hit a stump and overturned. Both men were ejected from the boat. Adams said the men tried to stay afloat by climbing on top of the boat. After a while, they attempted to swim to a nearby island.

Kyle's nephew said he and his uncle were talking back and forth to each other while trying to swim to shore. His nephew said at one point his uncle did respond and that's when he realized he had gone under.

Kyle's nephew made it to shore and was rescued later Wednesday afternoon. Officials were able to locate him on the island by tracking the GPS signal from his cell phone.
