Pike Road Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Green has been dismissed for personnel violations, according to Jane James, the chairwoman of the board that oversees the volunteer fire department.
Green is facing alcohol related charges, according to court documents and the man's attorney. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, as well as violation of the state's open container law in February.
Green who also serves as the President of the Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments has pleaded not guilty. He is set to appear in court in June.
The Town of Pike Road released the following statement after Green's arrest:
"The Town of Pike Road is proud to have three volunteer fire departments, each of which makes it a priority to serve and protect our residents. Volunteerism is at an all-time high and ISO ratings have continued to improve for each of our departments.
Just as the case throughout the state of Alabama, each department is governed by a board that is appointed by Montgomery County. Therefore each department is a separate entity from the Town of Pike Road.
All personnel issues are handled by the appointed board and we are confident they will conduct a thorough investigation and make the appropriate decisions.
As has always been the case the Town of Pike Road will continue to support our volunteer fire departments to ensure that outstanding fire service is available for every resident in the municipality."
