LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A guilty verdict was returned Thursday in a decade-old sex crimes case.

After a half-hour of deliberation, a Lauderdale County jury found Joseph Thomas guilty of sodomy and sexual abuse of a child under the age 12.

Thomas took the stand early Thursday, dodging questions from both prosecutors and his attorneys. Despite what the victims testified to earlier in the week, Thomas claimed he never touched any child in a sexual manner.

Thomas is accused of sexually abusing two young girls more than ten years ago. A Lauderdale County grand jury indicted him on charges of sodomy, sexual abuse and attempted rape back in 2012.

Thomas faces a sentence of 20 years up to life. Prosecutors said they intend to ask for a maximum sentence.
