Dothan's Farley nuclear power plant to hold hostile action exercise

Posted: Updated:
DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -

The Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant near Dothan will conduct a hostile action exercise on Wednesday, April 23, according to officials.

The exercise will be done in coordination with local, state and federal emergency officials and will be evaluated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The NRC requires nuclear plants to undergo the exercise once every eight years as a way to prove the plant's ability to protect the public, the plant and its employees with an effective emergency response.

The general public should not be alarmed on the day of the exercise if they see numerous law enforcement officials on or near the facility or in the surrounding community.
