2 arrested in Selma for breaking and entering a vehicle

SELMA, AL (WSFA) -

Two individuals have been arrested after a police officer allegedly witnessed one of them breaking into a vehicle.

According to police, Mahquell Martin, 20, and Alphonzo Phillips, 23, were arrested by an off duty Selma Police Officer in the 3000 block of Citizens Parkway on Tuesday.

According to the officer, the suspects drove up to an area near a parking lot, and that is when one of the individuals got out of the car as the other individual drove off down the road. The suspect on foot entered the parking lot wearing rubber gloves and carrying a hammer. According to the officer, the individual then broke the window out of a vehicle, and that is when the officer moved in and arrested the individual.

A short time later the individual driving the car came back to pick up the first individual, and that is when he was also arrested by the officer.

Both individuals were charged with unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle, and are being held on a $15,000 bond.
