SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF) -

The city of Scottsboro is looking to trade in its 70's retro downtown for a more modern look.

Scottsboro and Jackson County have both applied for grants to help revamp the Scottsboro square at a cost of $1.4 million.

City officials are hoping to replace the pea gravel sidewalks, pea gravel benches, and pea gravel garbage containers with a new look.

Both the city council and county commission on Monday approved the grant request, each seeking $500,000.

Mayor Melton Potter said he hopes to get grant approval later this year.
