Authorities say the suspect in the south Montgomery County manhunt has been captured. Shortly after midnight the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department located the suspect, Hart Onyebueke, 26, of Atlanta and took him into custody.

After being arrested, MPD charged Onyebueke with one count each of trafficking in illegal drugs, first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, third-degree escape, obstructing justice using a false identity, attempting to elude, and harassment.

He was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he was being held under bonds totaling $796,300.

The Montgomery Police Department says the situation started when State Troopers attempted a traffic stop in East Alabama earlier Tuesday. The suspect vehicle fled the officers and law enforcement lost it in Opelika.

Later, MPD officers spotted the vehicle and stopped it along I-65 in Hope Hull Tuesday afternoon. Officials say the driver fled the red Honda on foot near mile marker 164. MPD officers found narcotics inside the vehicle during a search.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Montgomery Police Department, search dogs and the Alabama State Trooper helicopter were involved in the manhunt for the suspect Tuesday afternoon and evening.

The focus of the search seemed to be in and around a nearby mobile home park called the Char Ly Mar Estates and campground on Fischer Road. At one point, police and sheriff's deputies were checking the trunks of cars coming and going from that area.

As the sun set, the search expanded about six miles from the interstate. Residents along Windham Road said police told them the suspect had been tracked and spotted there but he managed to stay on the run and the manhunt continued into the night. Just before 10 p.m., a police officer involved in the search informed WSFA 12 News crews on the scene that the search had been called off for the night and that the suspect had not yet been located. Within 2 hours, the suspect was in custody.

Residents in the area were concerned about a fugitive on the loose where they live. "It's a quiet area back in here. We've never had any problems, never. I'm hoping that they will get him, whoever it is but I'll be safe inside because I'm going to have all the doors locked," said Aunita Freeman, who lives on Highway 31/Mobile Highway.
