This week marks the one year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings; bombings that claimed the lives of four and injured more than 260 people. A year ago this week was to be a day of triumph and conquest for thousands as they ran, walked or wheeled their way to the finish line some 26 miles away.
As fate would have it, it was a much different ending because of the actions of two heartless souls out to make a statement through violence and bloodshed. Our hearts go out to all that lost their lives, were injured in the blast and without question, all the families impacted.
The memories of those lost and injured attended to by complete strangers and first responders with never fade as it was an inspiring example of the American spirit to help ones fellow man and not let evil overcome.
Our country is built on a never give up or give in attitude and that's just what you will see this week as thousands line up again to run the Boston Marathon. Individuals that learned to walk with prosthetic legs after losing theirs are running again.
So mark my words, there will be triumph and conquest in Boston this year, but on a much deeper level. Races are said to be won at the finish line, I would argue this year for all participating the win comes by just being at the starting line.
