BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

According to the Etowah County Sheriff's Department, an Attalla man was arrested and charged with theft of property after he drove a stolen truck past the scene of the crime while a deputy was taking a stolen vehicle report.

The 1983 Datsun pickup truck was stolen in the early morning hours of Sunday from a residence on Copeland Gap Church Road in Attalla. Deputy Kenneth Ragan was at the residence taking the stolen vehicle report from the victim when the truck went past the property. Ragan made contact with the truck and identified it as the stolen vehicle. The driver was arrested at the scene.

34-year-old Clifton Lakeith Gross was charged with first degree theft of property. He also faces one count of first degree trespassing and one count menacing for an unrelated incident in the Egypt community on the same night the truck was stolen. Gross is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center.
