FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Diversity in the classroom and on the job, it's everywhere you go. The staff at UNA is doing its part to educate students and the local community about the diverse world we live in.

University leaders hosted a Diversity Training Day Monday with events and panels with guest speakers all day long. They covered topics from race and ethnicity to same-sex relationships.

"We feel that it strengthens our institution, therefore it strengthens the community and we want to create global citizens who are able to go out into the workplace across the world," said John Williams with the Office of Diversity and Institutional Equity. "We want our students to understand and give them those tools that they can go out and be exceptional at."

The university plans to hold more training days, and the events are open to the public.
