Madison Police warn against suspicious online massage ads

MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

Madison Police takes prostitution reports very seriously. A Madison spa owner and employee were arrested for prostitution related crimes earlier in the month.

Ads were uncovered online with recent posting asking for more than a massage. Captain John Stringer with the Madison Police Department reviewed a few of the ads. We are not sharing the website, and some of the ads were too descriptive to share what they said.

Captain Stringer said what looks like an advertisement for a massage could really be an invitation for illegal prostitution. He said the issue investigators ran into is many of the people posting on the websites move from city to city before police can close in to arrest them.

"It gets frustrating because you want to make sure that you're leaving a dent in the crime, and leaving your little corner of the world a better place once you move on, but also you have to be realistic about it," said Captain Stringer. "Criminal activity is going to continue to occur, that's the world we live in. The only thing we can do is try to address the problem."

Captain Stringer said Madison wasn't the only community seeing prostitution become an issue. He said several North Alabama departments have responded and tried to eliminate it too.
