BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -

A man caught stealing from a Boaz business was hospitalized after running out in traffic during his getaway. It happened Friday afternoon on Highway 431 near Casey Avenue. The man almost got away, but instead of giving him a ride, a good Samaritan decided he would return him to the scene of the crime.

Boaz Police said 25-year-old Benjamin Cameron was seen running out of 256 Customs, a car audio retailer, with a radio in hand. He ran up the highway to another business where he hoped to catch a ride. However, when the driver noticed he was hiding in the bed of the truck, he took him back to the audio retailer. That's when he jumped from the bed of the truck and attempted to escape on foot, but when he ran across the highway, he was struck be a vehicle and was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital.

"He will be facing charged of theft," said Boaz Police Chief Scott Farish. "The investigator is working the case and will be in the process of obtaining warrants."

Cameron's injuries were non-life-threatening. The radio was recovered outside of the store.
