NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Nacogdoches County Sheriff's deputies arrested a couple on Sunday after they allegedly got into a fight, and the husband intentionally punched his infant son in the face. Then, both people allegedly fled the scene, leaving the baby there.

Rigoberto Martinez, 20, and Zury Guzman Hernandez, 17, both of Nacogdoches, are both still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail. Both of them were charged with third-degree felony abandoning or endangering a child. In addition, Martinez was charged with injury to a child, which is also a third-degree felony.

Collectively, Martinez' bail was set at $22,500, and Hernandez' bail was set at $7,500.

According to the arrest affidavits for the two suspects, NCSO deputies responded to a 911 call about a fight in progress at a parking lot on County Road 701. When they got there, witnesses told them that Martinez and Hernandez got into a fight. During the fight, Martinez allegedly punched his infant son in the face while the child was in his mother's arms.

After the fight, both Martinez and Hernandez allegedly fled the scene and left the baby boy there. Neither one was aware of who had custody of the child, according to the affidavit.

The baby was transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries, the affidavit stated.
