TANNER, AL (WAFF) -

A stolen municipal truck from Triana was used in an ATM heist early Monday morning in Tanner.

According to the owner of the Chevron off of Huntsville Brownsferry Road and Highway 31, two men in dark colored hoodies broke the front door with a rock shortly after 2:30 a.m., entered and took the entire ATM from the store.

The owner said the men left in a white truck, possibly a Ford F-150. Athens police said the truck was recovered in Madison County.

Limestone County deputies told the owner that these same offenders may have broken into another store over the weekend. Huntsville police responded to a burglary at the Family Dollar on Wellman Avenue early Sunday morning after receiving a report of a white Ford F-150 running into the storefront. In that incident, officers said the ATM inside the building had been broken into. No one has been arrested yet for that crime.

The Chevron owner said it will cost $500 to repair the door, and the business will have to get a new ATM as well.

A similar heist happened in Elkton, Tennessee, a few miles north of Athens. Burglars hit David Fralix's convenience store about ten months before. The thieves busted through his front window, tied a chain around his ATM, and drove off.

Fralix said the heist cost him more than $10-thousand. He said he feels for the Huntsville and Tanner business owners that went through the same thing he did, and he offers this advice to anyone that has an ATM at their business, and doesn't want to be the next victim.

"Get rid of the ATM, don't carry them," said Fralix. "I didn't put another one in. After the first break in, and they stole a large amount of money out of the ATM, I just decided not to do it."

Investigators are asking for information about the crime. Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Huntsville Brownsferry Road and Highway 31 should call authorities.
