HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A former Alabama Senator facing criminal charges spoke out about his delayed trial.

The State field an appeal asking the Court of Criminal Appeals to review a judge's decision about some evidence in the case. The corruption trial for Lowell Barron was set to start Monday. He's accused of illegally funneling money from his campaign account to former staffer Jill Johnson.

In a statement to WAFF-48, Lowell Barron says in part, "He has tried again and again to delay this case because he has no case. I have been waiting long enough for my day in court."
