To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. PAINT ROCK, AL (WAFF) -

A Jackson County judge temporarily halted the county school board from continuing with the termination hearing of a school secretary. That temporary restraining order was issued just hours before the hearing was to resume Thursday evening.

The secretary claimed two people are crucial for her defense, and they were unavailable for the hearing, but the board wished to continue anyway.

Paint Rock School Secretary Lori Mullican remains on paid leave from the school. Court documents said she served as the school secretary since 1997.

School officials declined to comment why they're seeking to terminate Mullican,  but in court documents filed Thursday, she did not know either until the hearing earlier in the month, although she was served with a letter of termination back on January 10.

It appeared money was at issue as the documents said a forensic accounting expert was used to testify against her, an expert Mullican claimed cannot be qualified as an expert.

Mullican sought a restraining order claiming Library Media Specialist Laura Page was in Mississippi tending to an invalid relative and Lorraine Peacock was unavailable due to a death in the family.

School officials declined to comment. No word on when or if the hearing will resume.
