MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (WAFF) -

Northwest Regional Airport was already in the process of looking for a new commercial carrier, after the current one announced its plans to end flight service in Muscle Shoals.

In fear of losing their status with the Essential Air Service Program, airport officials and local leaders had already began shopping around. After looking into he situation closer, we found a letter from a provider stating their interest in the Shoals.

Officials with Cape Air said they expressed interest in serving the Shoals around February. Since then, they said they chose not to commit and will further explore other options.

What does that mean when Silver Airways is gone? Who will take over? In March, we were told Air Choice may be a possible contender for the spot. Community leaders traveled to St. Louis to meet with airline officials, but no further plans were released.
