HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

You have no doubt noticed that gas prices in North Alabama have been climbing upward once again.

Experts said an increase is normal in the middle of spring, but this significant of a spike is not.

Oil refineries are switching to a summer blend, which always raises the price, but experts said the harsh winter caused issues with ethanol deliveries, which is driving the costs up.

Around Alabama, regular unleaded is averaging about $3.51 a gallon, up more than ten cents than last week, and ten cents higher than at the same time last year. There has been a 30-cent spike just since January 1.
