The 47th-Annual Special Olympics Track and Field event went into high gear in Huntsville Wednesday.

More than 400 special athletes competed at Milton Frank Stadium. They range in age from 8 to 65.

Participants got the chance to compete in several games like the 100-meter dash, softball throw, and the running and standing long jump.

"It's an absolute blast to watch them," said Aegis Technologies CEO Steve Hill. "They just have such a great time and they love to talk to you and be held and encouraged. You can't come out here and not get touched – it will touch your heart."

More than 1,000 volunteers helped out and assisted each athlete through the events.
