UNA Falls at Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After allowing just one home run through the first 39 games of the season, University of North Alabama pitchers allowed two homers and nine runs in a 9-7 loss at Alabama A&M. It was UNA's first loss ever to the Bulldogs in baseball in 12 meetings.

 

A&M jumped on top with a run in the second inning and added six more in the third for a 7-0 lead. UNA starter Kyle Stephenson lasted just two and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits.

 

North Alabama scored three runs in the fourth as Dylan Boston reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch, Bradley Noland doubled and scored on a Josh Carpenter ground-out and Jake Ward added an RBI-single. A&M added a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-3 before the Lions put two more runs on the board in the fifth. Carpenter doubled in one run and Tyler Hall drove in the other with a sacrifice fly.

 

A&M added a run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run for a 9-5 advantage. UNA got solo runs in the sixth and eighth innings to make the final count 9-7.

 

Cade Medley pitched two and a third innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Austin Carpenter pitched two scoreless innings of relief and Jacob Westerhouse pitched a scoreless eighth for UNA.

 

Kyle Conkle went three-for-four for the Lions with a run scored and an RBI. Noland and Carpenter were both three-for-five.

 

UNA is now 20-20 overall, while Alabama A&M is 15-19.
