FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Dozens of families and local leaders gathered in Florence to honor victims of crime Tuesday night.

They held a celebration of life as part of National Crime Victims' Rights Week. The program allows families to meet with others and share memories of those taken too soon. The goal is to let them know they have a support system within the community.

"At times, victims feel like they're alone. The court system is unfamiliar to them, they've not been through this process before, and when they come out tonight and see all these people, they know they're not alone. That's what we're hoping to show them," said Maryanne Rippey with the Shoals Vocal chapter.

Tuesday's celebration was followed by a vigil in honor of all the victims.
