LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Lauderdale County deputies are looking for the person who shot and killed a 61-year-old man inside his Anderson home.

Investigators said they found Royce Varnell shot in the head Monday afternoon, but did not find any signs of a struggle. They said a man looking for a part to a car found Varnell dead just inside the doorway.

Officials have been told there were a number of people in and out of the home over the weekend. Right now they are working on talking to those close to the victim. Investigators believe Varnell died sometime late Sunday evening or early Monday morning.

"There was not a lot of evidence at the scene, however this is going to be one of those situations where we've got a lot of people to talk to, and hopefully we can come up with who was there and what happened," said Travis Clemmons of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department.

If you have any information on the death of Royce Varnell or remember seeing anything suspicious in the area of County Road 511 over the weekend, you are asked to call the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department.
