HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The United States District Court set deadlines for the Department of Justice and the Huntsville City School board to complete the next steps in the battle to re-zone the school district.

Both parties must complete the discovery phase by May 2. Briefs will then be due on May 16. The court will then set a hearing to discuss the school board's motion to approve its plan.

The court also responded to Madison County Commissioner Bob Harrison's letter to the court. Harrison wants to file a formal document supporting the Department of Justice.

The court told Harrison that in order to get his letter on the record he must send it to the attorneys involved in the case by Friday. By the following Monday, he must prove to the court that he sent the letters.

Harrison and more than a dozen other citizens sent letters to the court in support of the DOJ's plan.
