HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Utilities customers are reporting another round of attempted phone scamming.

Officials with Huntsville Utilities said customers are receiving calls from someone claiming to represent the company, threatening disconnection of service if the victim does not immediately pay over the phone or via pre-paid debit card.

The caller asks the customer to call a toll-free number to make payment. Some of the fraudulent callers' origin numbers are reportedly local, but each attempt reportedly asks customers to call an out-of-state number.

Huntsville Utilities reminds customers to always ask for specific information from anyone claiming to represent the company, such as their name and company contact information.

Customers are also welcomed to call Huntsville Utilities directly to verify account status and report suspicious contact. The number to call is 256-535-1200.

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
