Lanes of I-85 SB near Tuskegee reopen after 5-vehicle wreck

SHORTER, AL (WSFA) -

Alabama State Troopers say the scene of a 5-vehicle crash that blocked all southbound lanes on Interstate 85 near Tuskegee has been cleared.

Troopers say the crash happened near mile marker 28, between the Tallassee and Tuskegee exits.

The wreck involved three passenger vehicles and two 18-wheelers. Five people were injured in the crash. Four were taken by ambulance and one by medical helicopter to area hospitals for treatment.

Authorities do not believe any of the injuries is life-threatening.

This wreck was near, but not connected to another crash that has a different stretch of I-85 southbound lanes closed in Macon County.

Authorities are investigating a fatal 18-wheeler fire that happened early Tuesday morning near the Tallassee exit. That stretch of roadway will remain closed Tuesday while an inspection is done on the bridge where the crash occurred.
