HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - At the corner of Beirne Avenue and Cross Street in Huntsville, a homeowner posted a picture on the See, Click, Fix site. You can see all of the leaves and other yard waste spilling out of the storm drain and into the street. It also fills the gutter from the curb to the street.
When it rains, the water collects, but a Huntsville Public Works crew jumped on it, less than a week after this was posted. We checked it out on Monday right after the heavy rain Sunday night, and the road was clear.
There are some leaves still piling up a little around the corner, so they may have to go back out in the future.
We also checked out another issue that people bring up every now and then - speeding on Memorial Parkway. One driver posted that he gets run over going 60 mph in the left lane of the parkway. Then, when he rides in the right lane, traffic builds up because of traffic merging on and off.
We drove the speed limit, going 50 mph in the left lane, and there were several drivers coming up on us. When we moved into the right lane, they passed us. However, we didn't see anyone going over 60 mph The request has been forwarded to the Huntsville Police Department. Officers will be check to see who's speeding, especially during busy hours.
