FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Police are warning Florence residents about a possible phone scam.

According to authorities, a caller saying they are with FedEx or UPS claims to have a prize delivery like a sum of money or another large ticket item. Police said the caller will attempt to set a time for delivery. A second caller then claims to be with the IRS and will attempt to collect money for taxes owed on the prize.

Florence police warn that the calls are part of a scam and urge residents to not give out personal information over the phone to these individuals.
