BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A U.S. Congressman from Louisiana, whose campaign was heavily supported by stars of the reality show Duck Dynasty, is asking for forgiveness after being caught on camera cheating on his wife.

The Ouachita Citizen newspaper in Monroe, Louisiana posted a video on its website Monday showing Congressman Vance McAllister passionately kissing a woman. The newspaper identified the woman as a member of his congressional staff. The newspaper reports the surveillance video was captured in December at McAllister's district office in Monroe.

"There's no doubt I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness," McAllister said in a statement issued late Monday afternoon. "I'm asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed."

McAlister, who campaigned as a conservative Christian has been married for 16 years.  He and his wife have five children.

McAllister won a special election in November 2013 to replace Representative Rodney Alexander.  According to the website Politico, "McAllister won in the heavily Republican district by playing up his conservative credentials, including his Christian faith and his 16-year marriage."   Stars of the reality TV show Duck Dynasty were large financial supporters of his campaign.
