DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Michael Stanley Townsel Jr. pleaded guilty on Monday to the 2013 murder of a Boaz man.

Authorities found the remains of Gary Lee Willis on Dec. 13 after responding to a car fire in DeKalb County. According to an autopsy report, Willis had been shot multiple times.

"There was an altercation that took place at a trailer in Marshall County," said District Attorney Steve Marshall. "Mr. Willis was placed in a vehicle and it was while in that vehicle in Marshall County that he was shot. [There are]  lots of rumors I've heard about this case, many of which are untrue. Obviously, a very unfortunate situation but at the same time, not a case where drugs were a contributing factor."

After pleading guilty, Townsel was sentenced to life in prison. The second-degree kidnapping charge filed against him was dropped.

Christopher Cagle and Delia May Downs were also arrested and charged in connection with the case. Their cases are expected to go before a grand jury soon.
