The week ahead: April 7-13

The father of the Discovery Middle School shooter is set to go on trial Monday for hindering prosecution. Dr. Iqbal Memon is accused of trying to help his son Hammad flee the country before his murder trial. Dr. Memon's wife already pleaded guilty to attempted hindering prosecution. Hammad was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the fatal 2010 shooting of his classmate, Todd Brown.

Also slated for Monday is the trial of a former DHR worker accused of sexually abusing children. Chadmon Wright faces a number of charges including sodomy, sexual abuse and possession of child pornography. None of the alleged victims were connected to his DHR work, but investigators said Wright met at least one of the victims while volunteering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

In Decatur, the city council is expected to vote Monday on a project development funding agreement involving Bass Prop Shops. The outdoor retailer is part of an overall deal for the Sweetwater project, which will bring a set of new restaurants and shops to the area, as well as hundreds of new jobs.

Motorists in Decatur should be aware of a tree trimming project that is expected to reduce available lanes on Modaus Road through Friday.

This week is also set aside by transportation departments across the country, including ALDOT, to remind drivers about safe travel through work zones.
