ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Crews in Albertville are cleaning up a big mess after a truck carrying chicken guts lost its load along 10 miles of highway.

A truck carrying chicken guts crashed in Guntersville on Tuesday and a contractor was hired to dispose of the load.

The guts were loaded into a dump truck and the driver headed out of town on Highway 75 in Albertville. That's when the tailgate apparently malfunctioned and started spilling its contents onto the road.

The trail went on for 10 miles from Highway 75 onto Highway 168, north of Albertville. The truck driver noticed the malfunction at the intersection of Highway 68 in Kilpatrick and stopped driving.

Crews are working to clean up the mess that left behind quite a stench in the area. They closed one lane of traffic north of Albertville as they do their work.
