ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Some Future Farmers of America honed their skills in Athens Thursday.

Limestone County students in grades 7-12 competed in the FFA Career Development Event at the Sheriff's Rodeo Arena. Categories included livestock judging, tractor driving and FFA Creed speaking.

The goal is to help students prepare for careers in agriculture.

"It's important for the kids," said East Limestone ag teacher John Wilson. "We've got great kids here in Limestone County. They're involved, they're thinking about their future and the career field they want to go in. They're starting now."

The top scores from Thursday's event will move on to the district competition next month.
