HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Students from Grissom High School's Cyber Team participated in a cyber defense competition in Washington DC, placing second in the nationwide contest.

CyberPatriot VI – The National Youth Cyber Defense Competition challenges students to resolve real-life cyber security situations faced by industry professionals. This year's event kicked off in November with 1,600 teams vying for a place in the national finals.

In the three online qualification rounds, teams had to identify and fix vulnerabilities in virtual systems. In the finals, teams competed to defend virtual networks from a professional aggressor made up of cyber security experts.

The Grissom team is comprised of James Brahm, Angela Cheng, Christopher Lin, Jeramy Lochner, Matthew Rogers and Moran Wagner, with instructor Chris Sutton.

Each team member receives a $1,500 scholarship as part of their second-place win.
