HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Republican State of Representatives candidate resigned his candidacy this week.

State Republican Party officials said they received Elbert Peters letter of resignation.

Peters, a long time Republican Party activist, resigned because he doesn't live in House District 53 where he was running. He discovered it after qualifying.

Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead said the party's candidate committee will meet as soon as next week to consider picking a candidate to replace Peters on the ballot.
