BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

An Alabama family who moved to Colorado to gain access to a medicinal marijuana oil is cautiously hopeful to return home with the passage of Carly's Law.

The newly signed law will allow UAB to study the effectiveness of cannabidiol oil, a non-hallucinogenic medical marijuana oil, that some claim can manage seizures. The study will allow some families access to the oil during the study, bringing hope that their loves ones will experience a better quality of life.

We first told you about the Swann family in February 2014. Their daughter, Allie, suffers from intractable epilepsy. The family moved to Colorado in September 2013 to be able to treat her seizures with CBD oil.

Now, they're hopeful that with the passage of Carly's Law, they may be able to return home and have access to the oil they say is already helping Allie.

"We don't understand the particulars of theimplementation process but again like I say, it's a start," said Butch Swann, Allie's father.

The Swanns are in constant contact with Allie's former doctors in Birmingham. They tell the family Allie is a top candidate to be accepted into the study.
